I have a similar assignment for Whitman’s poem, but I use our campus as the microcosm. The students identify the various groups, teachers (types/coaches/disciplines) adminstration, staff, and students (groups/organizations/extracurricular activity groups such as skaters, punk rockers, etc/ and others). They love this assignment.
