Happy Valentine’s Day! In honor of this holiday, I will be using pink and red throughout the post, ad nauseum.

 happy-valentines-day1.gifHere’s what we did today:

JUNIORS: We finished Thoreau’s Walden excerpt in our textbook and discussed it. We then listened to a podcast from NPR on Thoreau. Click here to listen to it if you were absent or want to hear it again: http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/patc/walden/.  I reminded you about your poetry assignment due tomorrow. Check yesterday’s post for specific details if you were absent or need a reminder.

HW: Poetry assignment due tomorrow. No poetry assignment tomorrow= no admission into the play.

Sophomores: You took your Lord of the Flies essay test today in class.

HW: Poetry assignment

Have a HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Short post today. Here’s what we did:

Juniors: I handed you out your Poetry Walk sheet for Northview’s first annual poetry contest and explained exactly what you needed to do.

Guidelines:

  • Had to be typed 14 or 16 pt. font
  • Had to be in poetic form (stanzas, non-paragraph form)
  • I need two copies – one for me, one for the contest
  • the contest entry form needs to have your name on the front (optional) and my name, Mrs. Breaux-grade number, on the back, it has your name, my name, your grade, and the topic of the contest you’re entering (relationships, dreams/goals, school, sports poem, challenges/obstacles, sonnet, foreign language, nature, song lyrics).
  • The copy you’re turning into me has the normal heading: Name, date, period, my name
  • Has to be at least 15 lines but can be more if you can fit it on one page.
  • Counts as 25% of a paper grade.
  • Make it fun – colored paper, different colors in the font, computer art, etc.
  • Graded on: formatting, effort, creativity and design.

Then, you took your EOCT checkpoint exam.  There are no make-ups available for this, so if you missed it, you missed it.

Sophomores: I explained the poetry contest — see above for complete details. Then, you spent the majority of the period, about 35 minutes, taking notes for the LOTF essay test tomorrow. I put the possible topics on the board, and you could use prior notes, your book, and annotations within your book to take original notes for the topic. You also had a choice in what you selected. I collected the notes at the end of the period and I will pas them out tomorrow for you to use on your test.

HW: Review the notes you took in class and your annotations for the test tomorrow.

See you tomorrow.
