Oh, how I always forget the stress of the end of the semester until I have papers to grade that are leering in my face taunting me…”grade me, grade me, grade me, grade me NOW!”  Argh…..I know you guys are eager to get your final grade before exams, but it looks like you’re going to have to email me for final paper grades at home this weekend. I won’t be able to give you your final average until possibly Monday, at the very earliest.

The good news is SAT prep is over, so I have 26 few students which brings me to a grand total of 150. Yay!!! Sanity will soon return, I am sure.

SAT Prep.: You finished your exit exam. I will have these graded by next week.

10th honors lit.: Secret Snowman Day in 2nd period, pizza fiasco day in 4th. I handed you the final exam study guide and we finished reading Antigone. HW: Study for your final.

I will have A Separate Peace books in class for you to use to gather quotations.

American Lit.: Day two of speeches. Wonderful job! Today went very well. You should be proud of yourselves! You received a study guide for the final exam in class.

It is very important to have a copy of your rubric printed out and have your speech assembled when you come to class.

HW: Study for the final.

See you tomorrow!

Two more full days and three more half days….yay!

Here’s what we did today:

SAT Prep: Day 1 of your final exam. HW: None.

American Literature: Speech presentations. You received an evaluation sheet to evaluate your classmates’ speeches. It’s worth .25% of an assessment grade. Some of the speeches were great! The highlights of today were: Jon K, Melissa B., Jordan C., and Ashley V., and Carter R. Way to go!! Remember to practice, practice, practice. A few people “read” their speech and didn’t perform them. Yikes! Practice makes perfect. HW: Study for your final exam!

10th honors Lit.: We almost finished Antigone. We have five pages left to finish in each class.

HW: Study for your final exam!

TGIF!!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I know I will be spending the weekend grading, grading, grading.

Here’s what we did today:

SAT Prep: I checked off your final index cards (word from recalcitrant to sycophant). Then, you finished section 3 practice test: you spent the first 15 minutes finishing section 6 then you did did section 1 (the essay). HW: Vocabulary Test on Monday (word from abjure to sycophant).

American Lit.: Today we read former President Clinton’s speech memorial address about the Oklahoma City Bombing. I gave all of you a brief overview of the bombing since you guys were about four or five years old when it happened. Then we read Sen. Hillary Clinton’s speech to the UN’s fourth conference on women. Both speeches are in the American Lit. handouts section of this website.

HW: Work on your speeches! You should have all your research done and should be beginning to outline and write your speech. On Monday, three printed out (all info.!) sources are due with your narrowed down topic and stance.

Here are some good links I found – some have info., some have additional topics you may want to consider:

www.extemptopicanalysis.com

www.goodspeechtopics.com

www.procon.org

How to do a Works Cited Page sample: http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/mla/sample.shtml

10th honors lit.: We finished the very heinous version (that Mrs. Breaux will never, never show again) of Jane Eyre. Mental note to self: Not everything A&E produces is exceptional.  HW: None

Looking ahead to next week: You will get your final exam study guide on Monday, your lit. logs, and possibly your JE Test, you will also receive your revision sheet and will get to revise either: the Catcher Essay Test, Reflective Narrative, or Jane Eyre test for up to 15 pts. back.  You also need your books Monday-Friday.

Okay, off to run home. Need some R&R before I grade ALL weekend.

Ciao.

Mrs. B :)

Good morning! Today’s post is early due to the fact that my sophomores are taking their Jane Eyre Essay Test today and I have time to write an early post.   Here’s what we did today: SAT Prep: You took your Case/Complement/S-V Agreement Test, then you got out your SparkNotes SAT Guide and flipped to Practice Test 3, section 2 (sorry, no page numbers are in this section!) and completed #1-24 of the critical reading section.  HW: Finish the section if necessary. We’ll go over it tomorrow. American Lit.: Today, we read MLK, jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech, then we read JFK’s “Innaugural Address” from your textbook, finally for HW, you had to complete the chart that was stapled to the back of King’s speech.

10th honors Lit.: Today you took your JE Essay Test.  HW: None.

See you tomorrow!

Well, it’s that time of the year again. I have avoided shopping thus far, but I need to start soon because there’s only three weeks until Christmas. I swore to myself when I took up knitting last Spring that I would knit enough scarves for my friends and family. I’ve only knit two and I’m still working on the second! Anyhow, on with today’s lessons…

SAT Prep: Today you took Vocabulary Quiz #7. HW: Study for the complement/case/s/v agreement test. Here are some helpful links for additional practice: http://www.daltonstate.edu/faculty/mnielsen/pronoun_case_1.htm

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/quizzes/niu/niu8.htm

http://grammar.uoregon.edu/nouns/nounpractice.html

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/cgi-shl/quiz.pl/agreement_add1.htm

American Lit.: Today, we reviewed the 12 rhetorical devices from your handouts that you received on Friday. Then, we read over the tips for persuasive speeches, then we drew names for speech performances next week. Finally, we began reading MLK, jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech. HW: Begin researching your speech.

10th grade honors Lit.: Today, I went over the questions from your JE Study guide and had you cross out the ones I will not ask. Then, I answered any questions that were confusing or that you needed help with, and then you worked quietly at your desk on the questions. Second period has decided to do “Secret Snowmen” and we selected our names today. Thanks to Jessie Sutton for the idea and coordinating! Fourth period voted to not do Secret Snowmen. HW: Study for your JE Test.

Have a great night! I must go cook dinner and grade sophomore papers.
