Major events today: an unexpected fire drill during 2nd period and teacher survey day.

Weather: somewhat cold

Mrs. Breaux’s mood: amused

SAT Prep: Today you learned about pronoun case. You completed 5-6 exercises in your pronoun packet.

American Lit.: Today, I gave you your GHSWT scores. They should be mailed to your house soon. Then, we read Thomas Paine’s “The Crisis” and I had you fill out a two-column chart. You had to write one quote (MLA style) on the left-hand side and interpret it and list any rhetorical device used on the right hand side. You need to have at least eight quotations and turn it tomorrow for a HW grade. HW: study rhetorical devices (repetition, restatement, parallelism, and metaphor) and the following: Declaration of Independence (Jefferson), Speech in the Virginia Convention (Henry), Speech in the Convention (Franklin) and The Crisis (Paine).

10th honors lit.: Today, I had to cancel JE Vocabulary Quiz #7 due to the unannounced fire drill. I handed out your study guides for your JE test on Monday and we had a class discussion on the novel — 2nd period, you guys were a bit sedated, 4th period — you guys did a great job!  We discussed: the idea of conventions vs. morality, internal vs. external beauty, Mr. Rochester’s blindness at the end as a symbol, Jane’s journey, Bertha’s madness…I loved our discussion! If you need a copy of the study guide, click on 10th honors handouts and download it.

HW: Re-study for JE Vocab. quiz #7  (words 151-174)

Must run! A special thanks to Ellie Sender for helping me after school in my classroom for a loooonnngggg time!
