Happy November!! Don’t you just love the weather? Here’s what I’m not loving….the lack of time change this past weekend. My Blackberry switched back an hour, so I am always feeling like I am ultra-early, when I’m really just on time. Okay, here’s what we did today: SAT PREP: We reviewed the grammar work you did while I was gone. Then, we did additional work with the pronoun. HW: No index cards due this week, as it has taken me a week to get your vocabulary packets photocopied. American Lit.: Today, we did a full test review for your Puritan Test tomorrow. HW: Study guide due, test tomorrow. 10th grade honors: We reviewed your grammar work that you did while the sub was here Monday and discussed: subject complements and pronouns. Then, I handed you back your essays from Tuesday and you had 25 minutes to add information or revise and edit. HW: JE Vocabulary Quiz #4 and read chapters 22 and 23. Have a good night! It’s almost 6 pm and I am still here!! Must go home, make dinner and grade while somehow fitting in Grey’s Anatomy.

I was not here on Monday and Tuesday, you guys had a sub, so here is what you did: Here is a copy of the lesson plans I gave the substitute: Monday, 10/29 Zero period: Students are to get out grammar work from Friday and complete the following:

  1. Vocabulary Quiz #2 – Pass out the white cover sheets from the table under the purple bulletin board.  Then, pass out the quiz. Please walk around and sit up front and watch them to make sure there is not any cheating. When they have each finished, please have them turn it in to you.
  2. Take notes from the top of each page. You are responsible for knowing this information as soon as we review it on Wed. Be familiar with it!

Page 13 #1-20; Page 15 #1-20; Page 16 A #1-10. 1st, 3rd, 6th period – American Lit.

  1. Collect Act III and IV questions from them.
  2. Then, hand them out the study guide. They will need their questions back, as there are quotations on the back side that they need for the study guide.
  3. Check their homework – I have provided you a class roster to check that they turned in their Act III and IV questions for HW. If they turn them in after you collect them, indicate that it was late on the class roster. Give them a check if it was completed, turned in on time, and an incomplete if it was partially done, and a zero if it was not turned in.  When you are done checking, hand them back.
  4. At the end of the period, collect their study guides. Let me know for each day, who did not make much progress.

 2nd, 4th period 10th Honors

  1. Students are to get the grade 9 teal grammar books from under their desks and complete the following: page. 33 – take notes from the top and complete #1-10, copy notes from the top of page 35 and completed Exercise A 1-5 and exercise b 1-5; and page 37 – copy notes and complete exercise A 1-6 and B 1-4.
  2. Students are to read Ch.21 (pages 248-270) in class and finish the rest for HW.

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 Zero period SAT PREP:

  1. Then, have students get their assigned Spark Notes Book and read pages 171-174; they are to read and take notes. I will check notes and grammar upon my return.
  2.   They are to copy words for their third vocabulary quiz down – words start with extant to indefatigable.
  3. Finally, take notes on short reading passages, from pages 175-180.

HW: Study for Prep Quiz #5 on Wed. Tell students if they have make up work, they will need to have it done ASAP and be ready to talk to me about make-up quizzes on Wed.   1st, 3rd, 6th period – American Lit.:

  1. Day 2 of The Puritan Study Guide – call students names and hand back their study guide. If a student was absent, give them a study guide and tell them it has to be turned in by me tomorrow to go to Urban Legends.
  2. Tell them that it has to be completed by the end of the period, collect them and if you have time, alphabetize them A-Z, starting with their last name.

2nd, 4th period 10th honors Lit: 1. Handout the writing prompt. Students are to work on this all period. They may use their books.2. Have them staple the prompt to their paper and turn in at the end of the period.
